My wife, on our horrible experience purchasing a new Kitchenaid electric range: WARNING: If you are at all adverse to noise, or want to use your oven regularly, then I suggest that you AVOID the slide in electric KitchenAid range.... I had the KESA907SS01 installed, and after 6 (six!) service calls and installation of a new blower part, I am returning the range to the dealer. Apparently, the slide in models have a cooling fan/blower that cools the electronic controls when the oven is hot (it continues 20-30 minutes after turning the oven off while it's cooling down). While I'm fine with the sound of air blowing, it also makes a totally unacceptable RESONATING WHISTLING NOISE. The noise is loud enough to be heard throughout the house -- even upstairs. I had no idea that my regular oven was going to be louder and more annoying than my microwave oven. Upon installation I immediately requested service and was subsequently told that "fans make noise." However, they agreed that this one was louder than normal and attempted to replace the blower to see if that would help....it got worse. Now, in addition to the resonating whistle, the unit has a VIBRATING RATTLE as well -- sounds like it's about to take off! None of the five different service technicians could fix it (most were unfamiliar with the model) and Whirlpool (the manufacturer) was no help, saying "it's functioning as intended." Dealing with the dealer, the vendor and the service technicians for the past month has been exhausting, draining and thoroughly disheartening. So, the range looks great, cooktop is pleasant to use and easy to clean, the warming drawer is terrific for heating dinner plates, and the oven seems to heat fine, but I CAN'T STAND TO USE THE OVEN due to the excessive noise. I found some parts-specification information on various ranges, and it appears that a blower is present on slide in ranges (controls in front), but not free-standing ranges (controls in back). This is true of both KitchenAid and Frigidaire, but I don't have any experience with using the Frigidaire range, so I don't know if it has a similar sound problem. I replaced my KA with a free standing Frigidaire range with a second mini-oven in the bottom drawer (FLEFMZ99EC). I was nervous about it, but after it was installed I turned the oven on and it was SILENT!! I'm very, very happy with my new free standing range (controls on the backsplash -- no blower!). There is a little noise when you use the convection fan, but it's minimal and it can be turned on or off at will. |
