Hi. My name is Mike Oliphant. In the summer of 1993, I took off to Europe for a few months. It was a terrific experience. Seeing other accounts of people's travels that have been placed on the Web have inspired me to do the same. It's been a lot of fun reliving my vacation as I put this stuff online. 

 I'm not quite sure when I made the decision to spend the summer in Europe. It's not like I mulled it over for a while and finally decided to go. It was more like one day I wasn't even thinking about it and the next day I knew for certain I was going to go. Soon after, I had my plane tickets, my rail pass, my travel book, and my hostel card. I didn't have a travel plan. All I knew was the day I flew into Paris and the day (two and a half months later) that I flew back home. Everything else I left completely up in the air. I put all of my stuff in storage and moved out of my apartment. Due to timing constraints, I ended up moving out of my apartment two weeks before I was scheduled to leave for Europe. My homeless condition resulted in an impromptu trip up the west coast. But that's another story... 

 During the time I was in Europe, I was pretty good about keeping a journal. Aside from minor additions as I typed things in and the removal of some parts that are none of your bussiness, this travel account is taken almost verbatim from my journal.
